Since moving to Greenpoint I don’t often make it out to the Southern Suburbs for lunches, But there are two exceptions – the first: Common Ground Cafe. It’s on the Rondebosch Common and is the best place in the area for tea and cake or a light lunch. The food is great quality, very reasonably priced and the view of the Common and Table Mountain is hard to beat!
I popped in there yesterday for a quick lunch and was greeted by the really lovely new manager, Jennifer, who has taken over from the previous (also excellent) manager.
The place is trendy – always buzzing but not packed – so the vibe is good but not overwhelming. I recommend their soup of the day (if its tomato) – it’s what I always have. But the breakfasts are delicious, and the buffet lunch (a la Sprigs in Hillcrest) is always a winner and most importantly they do a great cappuccino!
