Last month’s Come Wine With Us was a completely unique take on their usual food and wine pairings. The idea behind the experience was a cultural exchange – meeting new people, discussing life and swapping ideas. The day started off bright and early at Cape Town’s train station where we boarded our own private train to Khayelitsha.
Once off the train we jumped in the minibus taxis that were waiting for us and headed off to our first stop: the Football of Hope Centre. An area notorious for gang and related violent crime activity, it was reclaimed as part of a World Cup 2010 initiative, equiped with football facilities and comfortable seating areas, it has successfully made the transition and become a place for locals to meet and hang out.
Just around the corner is the exciting entrepreneurship spot: The Hubspace. Part of a growing trend of co-working spaces in Cape Town, the Hubspace provides a work environment for small tech-based startups.
And then it was off to Malibongwe Restaurant for traditional food paired with Nederburg wines. We had a great time chatting with the wine makers, tasting some new wines and hearing a bit more about some of what we can expect next from Nederberg.
Then back to the train for the short trip back to Cape Town!
Book for the next CWWU, I’ve heard from some reliable sources that it’s one you don’t want to miss!
Thanks to the CWWU team for hosting us, it was a memorable day!
