I have been meaning to do this for myself for YEARS. I don’t have hours to get ready in the morning (I have a 2 year old and an almost 1 year old), and I don’t have time to google and experiment for hours with different ‘looks’, and I DEFINITELY don’t have budget to try different types of products with no idea whether they will work for me or not. So I jumped at the opportunity to be taken through the process by Lauren Amy Studio. Lauren is an expert in her field, and her love for makeup and making women feel great about themselves is so evident.
Where I’m At Right Now Makeup-Wise
So this is the best way to 1) optimise my makeup routine in the morning, 2) have a ‘go-to’ day and night look that works for me 3) know which products to use – even if I need to use only top-end products, I’ll still be saving by only buying what I need.
I know that makeup shouldn’t be so important, but I feel like I’ve wasted so much money over the years buying products that don’t work for me, colours that aren’t quite right and I don’t have a ‘look’ – that 5 minute morning makeup routine that you could do in your sleep so that you look good (because it usually makes me feel better too). And I know if shouldn’t, but when you’ve been up the whole night with a teething 10 month old, you need to know how to apply that concealer!
To make this fun, I went with my mom and sister (two of my favourite humans) and we’re all in need of fresh inspiration and some help on what products to use.
Lauren Amy Studio
Lauren is a makeup artist with 3 little children and she does the most beautiful wedding makeup (have a look at her instagram feed). Because she has 3 kids, she really understands what it’s like for moms and is so kind in her approach to makeup. I have struggled with going into Mac (and Bobbi Brown and others) in the past because they can be quite pushy, and the lighting makes me feel so much older and more tired than I already am. Going into Lauren’s house and experimenting with different looks is such an empowering process in comparison.
Lauren took us through the basics of skincare and a day and night look. She’s really thorough, we spent over 4 hours going through everything.
- Skincare – What products to use, the ideal skincare routine and what not to skimp on.
- Primer – The importance of using a primer for both your face and eyes.
- Eyes – How to do a subtle day look and what to do to quickly change into a good night look, how to apply mascara and how to apply concealer.
- Foundation – The right colour to use and how to apply
- Cheeks – How to apply bronzer and blush (and what shades to use)
- Lips – How to use lip liner, and the different types of lipstick.
I went home with a long wishlist, and yay for Mac and Bobbi Brown that both had a 25% off sale on Black Friday so all of my Christmas presents have been bought.
Thank you so much Lauren – it was such an empowering, fun evening. Definitely the best way to up your makeup game!
