I spend an inordinate amount of time browsing dresses online, they’re the perfect pick-me up, whatever the season.
I mean, think about it. Cute floral maxi’s for spring, bright short dresses for summer, and the layering opportunities for autumn and winter are limitless.
With winter approaching, I’ve been looking at adding a few transitional dresses for in-between weather. The thing with Cape Town is that you never know what the weather will be like from one moment to the next. It might say sunny with no wind, but there’s still a good chance that the mornings will be fresh and, as the sun sets, you’ll definitely need a jacket. I prefer to do my shopping for dresses online – it’s so much easier to have a look at all the options in one place.
Narrowing Down the Options
I recently booked a style consult with Style it Simple’s Pippa J to get a better idea of what works for my body shape and colouring. It’s helped so much to be able to narrow down my options more effectively, and I’m slowly but surely starting to build a more minimalist wardrobe with items that I love and enjoy wearing.
I’m slightly bigger on top, don’t have much of a waist, and I’m 5’11, so everything is short on me.
Here’s my checklist (it’s more of a guideline really):
- Length: above the knee
- Neckline: scooped or deep V
- Waist: fitted if possible
- Colour: bold spring/jewel colours (think purple, teal) as well as cool blues and pinks
- Fabric: I prefer natural fabrics so I always go for viscose or cotton

Shopping for Dresses Online with Superbalist
Superbalist have one of the largest ranges of dresses online and cater for all shapes and sizes. I love the convenience of browsing the site from my home. I find that I’m able to make better choices when I’m not overwhelmed with all the sensory stimulation that comes with a visit to the mall.
I can also build a wishlist, compare it to my dress checklist, and narrow down the options from there. And, if I make a mistake, or the sizing isn’t quite right, their after-sales service and returns policy makes it easy to keep only the dresses that I know I’ll love and wear for years.
I was offered a voucher in exchange for this post, but I regularly shop online at Superbalist (at least twice a month) for everything from home décor to clothing for myself, my husband and our three children.
