The Rudera Cabernet Sauvignon blanc 2012 is a dry;fruity 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made in a strictly classical approach. The grapes were all hand picked and sorted in the vineyard, followed by berry selection in the cellar before crush. The vineyard is situated at the foothills of the Simonsberg mountain west of Stellenbosch and is just a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean. The temperatures during the ripening season in January and February average at 23.7 and 21.8 respectively, and with the sandstone-derived gravel soils, conditions are ideal for premium quality Cabernet.

Rudera’s philosophy for winemaking is to let the vineyard show through the wine and this philosophy comes though in every sip of this great Cabernet Sauvignon. The Rudera Cabernet drinks exceptionally well now and will reward after another 3 years in the bottle.
A vision of inky-purple and brick-red hues, bears promise to intense flavours of black currents, bluegum, ripe cherries, cigar box and pencil shavings on the nose that follows through and explodes on the palate with a voluptuous mouthfeel and powerful, gripping finish.
Rudera Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with a variety of mushroom and meat dishes such as mushroom risotto or barbequed lamb. The hint of fynbos on the
nose and palate opens up pairing with vegetarian dishes such as vegetable lasagne and oven roasted vegetables.

The tannins on the Cabernet are big and ripe, best served at room temperature or slightly under. This wine has a velvet texture and the total alcohol is 14.5% and the residual sugar 1.8 grams per litre.

The perfect consumer will be someone who loves a rather big style, high quality, traditional wine. The Rudera Cabernet is made in the ancient tradition of winemaking , as naturally as possible without additives or employing synthetic interventions of any kind

The Rudera Cabernet Sauvignon blanc is a very elegant style due to the fact that the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in the barrel. The wine was racked using only gravitation and matured in French Oak barriques for a total of 22 months.

Cape Town Insiders’ Review Of The Wine

Rudera’s philosophy has always been to let the vineyard show through the wine and it definitely works for them with their 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. Although this wine can be kept for another 3 year, it’s beautiful now and it’s hard not to open when the wine is this good. This wine is intense, expressive with a powerful finish. I loved the suggestion to serve the wine slightly below room temperature, it gives the wine a chance to show off!
