Vita Liberata Arrives in South Africa

Last week I attended the launch of one of the most interesting beauty products that I’ve come across in a long time. As South Africans we’re increasingly aware of the damage that sun does to our skin but that knowledge has done little to dampen the desire for tanned limbs. Vita Liberata is an international tanning product that is completely organic and has been awarded the 2014 Natural Beauty Award. The thing that impressed me the most, however, is that the tan last 4 x longer than other products and their pHenominal range, rather than sitting as a layer on top of the skin, actually penetrates deeper and as a result can last up to 6 weeks.

From their press release:

Vita Liberata, the world’s leading organic, luxury sunless tanning range, is sold in 22 countries, is currently the number one tanning brand in cosmetic giant, Sephora Europe and Sephora USA and is now available in South Africa.

It is also an award winning brand, having just received the title of WINNER in the Best Tanning Product category in the 2014 Natural Beauty Awards UK – run by Natural Health UK magazine. Now in their eighth year these prestigious beauty awards offer the largest and most respected accolades, stamping industry approval and consumer satisfaction onto winning products.

There’s a wide range of products for all skin types and for different occasions, there’s a rapid colour that develops within 2 hours and their pHenominal rang that takes 4 hours to develop. The products are available in a mousse or lotion form, the products are available tinted or untinted and they even have a BB Cream range. Vita Liberata also offers an all-important complementary range including a Tan Booster, a Polish and a Post Tan product for a moisture boost.

Vita Liberata offers a self-application range (for personal use) as well as supplying professional products to beauty salons. And their focus on natural colours (think sugar cane) and natural ingredients (an unending list of amazing ingredients like Ginseng, Aloevera, Witch Hazel, Damask Rose, Cocout, Liquorice, Cranberry, Grape, Raspberry and Cucumber) make it a perfect option.

But the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Unfortunately I didn’t get any great shots of the demo model that they used for the professional products, but luckily our little take home bag of goodies had a sample size mitt and product from their pHenominal range which, if applied correctly, can last up to 6 weeks. So, making allowances for the fact that this is the first time I’ve ever attempted a self-tan, I was really impressed with the result. Despite my newbie status, the tan is even, golden brown and actually really easy to apply. I applied 3 layers, and took the photos after the third application. The product has very little smell (in testing 99% of subjects found it to be completely odourless). I took a couple of before and after photos, none of which have been edited or photoshopped to enhance the colours.

The Vita Liberata online store will be up and running soon, but in the meantime you can find all the details you need here: or join them on Facebook: /vitaliberatasouthafrica and Twitter: @vitaliberatasa.

* Note I was given a sample of the Vita Liberata pHenominal product to try, all views are my own and the photos have not been edited.

Have a look at more travel.
