How to Bet on March Madness
September 30, 2022

As soon as the month of March hits, most of the sports news focuses on college basketball and the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament is not only enjoyable to watch, but it also provides some terrific betting opportunities.

Betting on basketball is always popular with sports bettors and there are plenty of ways to wager on the NCAA Tournament. Here is a closer look at some of the best ways to bet on March Madness, and these betting options will be available everywhere.

Moneyline

When it comes to betting on March Madness, the most basic type of wager to make is known as a moneyline bet. This is the best bet to make for beginning bettors as there isn’t much to this one.

A moneyline wager is simply picking the winning basketball team of a certain matchup, and that can be a challenge when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. Each team in the matchup will have different odds assigned, and those odds will determine how much money can be paid out.

This isn’t a good option when it comes to a 1-16 matchup, but is a great choice when the teams appear to be pretty even.

Spread

When it comes to college basketball, a spread bet is typically the bet that is made the most. Betting against the spread is a step up from moneyline betting because there are two things to consider with this type of bet.

A spread refers to the final score and the difference between the two teams at the end of 40 minutes. Spread betting usually comes with betting lines of -110 for each side, and it can be a wager that pays out extremely well.

One unique feature of a spread bet is that you can actually bet on the team that loses the basketball game.

Totals

A totals bet is another popular betting option when it comes to college basketball, and this is much different than moneyline or spread betting. A total bet is also commonly referred to as an “over/under” wager, and you are simply looking at the total number of points.

Picking winners and losers in the NCAA Tournament is not particularly easy, and that is why some people prefer to bet on the total number of points. This is another wager that has betting lines set at -110, and that can lead to some good money when making this wager.

Prop Betting

Prop betting is another popular way to bet on college basketball, and the NCAA Tournament will bring plenty of prop betting options. A prop bet is a unique wager and looking at player or team stats is usually the most common bet to make.

Prop betting can be tricky since there are so many options available, but some of those options will come with some terrific odds. One nice thing about prop betting is that you can choose several different props from the same game.

Parlays

The First Round of the NCAA Tournament features 16 games on two straight days, and that is a great time to put together a parlay. A parlay wager is a combination bet, and you can include as many legs as you wish in order to increase your potential payout.

Since parlays have become extremely popular with bettors, you are also going to find some promotions centered around this type of betting. In order for the parlay to hit, you will have to win all of the bets along the way.

Live Betting

Most of the NCAA Tournament betting is going to be done pre-game, but that’s not the only way to wager on the event. If you fail to get a bet in during the game, you will still be able to place wagers while the game is going on.

Live betting continues to become more and more popular, and this is a type of bet that has to be done in real-time. You won’t have much time to do any research when the live betting odds are available as they will be going away quickly.
